Default Arena Leavers- the simple and organised solution

First of all let me say that I know the idea was posted in one way or another on other threads. However, most of the times it was a response to a nag, and the idea was never posted in an organized manner, with explanations and in detail.

Random Arena leavers have always been an issue with the game, and have grown drasticly with the introduction of the Gladiator title. People want a perfect team, and feel free to enter a match, not like the team and leave only to do the dame thing over again and again. It has been debated many times as to wether or not leavers should be punished.
One simple solution, is a compromise between punishing and not punishing, meaning that the punishment is very small: it has little effect on those who need to leave, but it is enough to deter those who constantly leave.

The idea is as follows:
If a player leaves the team during a match, then he or she is unable to enter another match for a certain period of time (about 2-4 minutes).
The time period is not a set value, and the total time depends on certain factors:
1. If a player leaves even before the match starts then the penalty will be greater than if the player left several minutes after the match began (infact, several minutes into the match, there sould be no penalty anyways).
2. If someone already left the team, then the penalty should be smaller than what it was if he left a full team.. assuming there would be a penalty for leaving a non-full team.
3. Leaving at the end of the match (whether you lost or won) inccurs no penalty.

Some common critism the idea will probably receive, with the responses pre- answered:

1. RA is for noobs..who cares..?
Well, I for one care.. RA may be the place where the least amount of teamplay and coordination is needed, but its also the place where self sufficent builds are required, a build that can defend itself as well as provide an offence, and not just focus on one task. It is also the place where joining a team is easy, and it is relaxing fun.. Besides, if you don't like RA, then you have no reason to be against the idea anyways.

2. But there is no monk on my team, I can't play with them!
Newsflash, this is why its called RANDOM arenas. Its meant to be played with the hand you are dealt with. If you want a team organized with a monk, a rit, a warrior, and an ele, then go to the organized TEAM arenas. Part of the fun is being able to achive victory with whatever team you have.. And I have reached 10 straight victories even with no monks.

3. But what if we have 3 monks on the team?
First of all ,the situation where having a team full of monks is not very common..I'll admit that this is probably the hardest issue which the solution as it is may lead to problems. One fairly simple solution, is if all or 3/4 of the team resigns then there will be no penalty.

4. But what if someone has to leave because of Real Life?
I am not suggesting a faction penalty, an account mark or being unable to enter a match for a long period of time. If someone has a phonecall, or has to answer the door, they are not going to enter another match for the next few minutes anyways, so this change will have little effect on any of us when we have Real Life issues.

5. But what if someone is having connectivity issues, they should not be punished for that
Same answer as above. Besides RA is not the only place to test your connectivity if you are having issues.

In conclusion, I really think that this will help reduce leavers, without acctually penalizing those who need to leave.

Hrm. I think he addressed that. Why don't you let the mods do thier job and close it if they see neccessary.

Leavers are the sole reason I don't play RA. It seems like a good solution to me.

I still think it would be amusing if they kept a hidden record of how frequently each player leaves, and make the party matching try to match leavers together.

I doubt it'll ever happen... and I'll continue to avoid RA.

I'd love some kind of punishment enforced by a simple rule, a simple... if you leave a game, by any means until after victory/defeat, you can't go in for another 10/20 minutes.... would do the trick perfect.

As for people who quit because they don't have a monk...they are morons, you have an additional damage dealer for starters, and secondly; restoration rits, somehow, rock my world - all my win streaks (ALL NINE OF THEM OMG) have been with a resto rit, including one 29 win streak, 19 of those games in TA.

and you can still win 2v4, like me and an assasin did this morning...we never just won we slaughtered them ^^! (we continued to get my 9th win streak with a resto rit and another assasin yay)

oh yeah if you use my build you have to pay me 100g build tax (-_-)

fight the good fight people and remember, the opposing team is just as likely to have quitters too

Well 2-4 minutes is plenty. The only reason you quit early to begin with is to minimize time to next match. If the penalty made this a bad choice to leave early, nobody would leave the match early for this reason. To leave for another reason still goes unpunished (since you wouldn't intend on going back in immediately anyway). Though, I think it's perfectly fine like that. At that point if you left, you can safely say that it is because of a legitimate reason.. not because the player thought the team would lose and wants a better one.

And Cottage Pie, you'll have to explain me how the build works. Seems interesting. Of course.. for a 100g fee.
